Monday, April 13th, 2015: The hitting streak that Florida catcher Matt Wieters had going was ended today by the Cincinnati Reds. Wieters, who had hits in his previous 20 games, was stymied today, but the rest of his team picked him up, earning the Marlins a 6-4 victory at Great American Ball Park. He was hitless in 3 at-bats.
"Hitting streaks come and go. One good thing came out of it, however, it perked up my batting average a little bit, but did put a little pressure on me. It's hard to be natural at the plate with the streak always in the back of your mind. If it had to end, I'm glad it was in a win."
This season Wieters is swinging the bat at a .292 pace. He has hit no home runs and scored 3 times, while driving in 5. His on-base percentage is .333 and he has played in 7 games. |

Monday, April 13th, 2015: So far in his young career, Alta Williamson has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the National in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts.
The 25-year-old Colorado Rockies third baseman hit at a torrid .476 clip as he collected 10 hits in 21 at-bats, 2 home runs, 8 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

Monday, April 13th, 2015: At the age of 27, Pedro Alvarez might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Tampa Bay second baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .524 batting average. For his efforts Alvarez collected the American Player of the Week Award.
He racked up 11 hits in 21 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs last week in 5 games.
