Saturday, July 1st, 2017: There were plenty of hugs and handshakes passed out as 21-year-old minor league starting pitcher Tim Perkins, 30-year-old left fielder Jordan Schafer, 37-year-old first baseman Ryan Howard, 28-year-old left fielder Christian Santana, 36-year-old reliever C.J. Wilson and 30-year-old minor league starting pitcher Tommy Hunter left the Texas Rangers today en route to joining the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. 30-year-old starting pitcher Claude Kirkland and 30-year-old catcher Buster Posey will be traveling to Texas Rangers to complete the swap.
Schafer has a .287 average and a .371 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 45 hits, 3 home runs and driven in 16 runs.
This year Kirkland has gone 9-7 with an ERA of 4.10 and has 100 strikeouts in 98.2 innings. |
 | Fife, Sentner Swap Clubs
Saturday, July 1st, 2017: Officials for San Diego confirmed that they have traded 30-year-old starting pitcher Stephen Fife to the Washington Nationals. In return, the Padres will receive 27-year-old starting pitcher Cam Sentner, 26-year-old first baseman Glenn Klein and 21-year-old minor league reliever Pedro Ortíz.
In 10 starts this season Fife has recorded a 5-4 record and a 7.25 ERA.
His record for the year is 1-1 in 6 starts and Sentner has a 4.22 ERA. |

Saturday, July 1st, 2017: Kenny Bender is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest National Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.
In June the Chicago hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .376 average with 35 hits, 2 home runs and 14 RBIs.
Posting a .289 batting average to date, Bender has 5 home runs and 23 RBIs. |
