He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Eastern League officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 11 hits in 24 at-bats to put up a .458 average. Cooke collected 3 home runs, 12 RBIs and scored 9 runs.
| | This Week's Star Player is Mastroianni Monday, April 13th, 2015: There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Darin Mastroianni, the New Hampshire right fielder, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Eastern League Player of the Week honors.
Mastroianni piled up 10 hits in 14 at-bats, no home runs and 3 RBIs while hitting .714.
| | Great Stroke: Davis Gets 5 Hits Sunday, April 12th, 2015: Connecticut center fielder Eric Davis could do no wrong as he collected 5 hits against Portland, but he couldn't win the game. "It's a shame we didn't win. It would have been a very special day if that had happened. But it didn't. At least my batting average didn't take a plunge, too," he said. The Defenders were beaten 11-7 at Lawmakers Stadium by the Sea Dogs.
"In every one of his at-bats, things were in his favor... he got hitter's counts," the skipper of the Sea Dogs said to the press corps after the game.
Davis agreed. "The key is getting ahead. Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit. You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
E. Davis singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
