Baseball is here again! | | José López Nabs Best Bat Trophy Friday, October 3rd, 2014: José López was hitting on all cylinders in 2014, making Fort Wayne a very happy organization. He put up some solid numbers this year and was awarded the Midwest League's Outstanding Hitter Award today.
The right fielder piled up 185 hits, 35 doubles, 6 triples, 25 home runs and 104 runs batted in on the way to crafting a .331 batting average. | | Kane County Star, Outstanding Pitcher Award Winner Thursday, October 2nd, 2014: It was a glorious year for Danny Kemp of Kane County. He finish the season with 17 victories and only 5 losses with an impressive 2.79 ERA. The talented Cougars pitcher started 28 games and struck out 129 batters in 190 innings and copped the Midwest League Outstanding Pitcher Award.
"It means a lot," Kemp said. "I hadn't really had a chance to sit down and think about it yet. You guys know how I am about numbers and thinking about individual awards. It feels good right now. I can't really put it into words, but I'm sure later on tonight when I have a chance to sit down with my family and think about it, I'll have some words for it. But right now, I'm just happy that it happened this year."
Actually the numbers said plenty for him.
His skipper made this comment upon hearing that he has won the acclaimed award. "Not only is he a talented pitcher, but a great teammate, too. Danny never pointed fingers, never felt sorry for himself, stayed a positive, team-oriented guy and continued to contribute and pull for our team's victories, not worry about his own individual performance."
Later in the interview Kemp did say he took a little peek at his stats. "Probably the last week or so, just to see if I had a chance," he admitted. "Some other people were talking that I had a chance to win. I did look at a few numbers. I felt that it could've gone either way. I'm just happy and thankful that it went my way." | | | | |
