| Breaking News | | 20 Games in a Row for Fernández Wednesday, June 28th, 2017: He did it again!
Julián Fernández got another hit and ran his hitting streak to 20. He collected 2 hits in 5 at-bats, but that wasn't enough to win the game. His Boise Hawks were defeated 6-5 at Pastors Ballpark by the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.
During the recent streak, the 25-year-old second baseman has remained quiet, sidestepping questions about it with ease. Whether for superstitious reasons or simply in an effort to avoid the spotlight, Fernández preferred to shower praise on his team. He told reporters in the clubhouse after the loss, "We have a better ballclub than we showed today."
"It's amazing to watch him hit right now, but I don't think anybody's really mentioning it," one of his teammates said. "So, we're trying to kind of keep that quiet... don't want to jinx him." J. Fernández singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th and singled in the 9th.
This season Fernández is hitting .395 with 17 hits, no home runs, 3 RBIs, scored 12 runs and played in 10 games. | | Rodríguez Goes 5-6 Against Tri-City Wednesday, June 28th, 2017: Vancouver second baseman Jorge Rodríguez could do no wrong in today's 18-5 win over the Dust Devils as he collected 5 hits.
"In every one of his at-bats things were in his favor... he got hitter's counts," the skipper of the Dust Devils said to the press corps after the game.
Rodríguez agreed. "The key is getting ahead. Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit. You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."
J. Rodríguez hit an RBI double in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 6th and singled in the 8th.
This year Rodríguez is hitting .500 with 20 hits, 2 home runs, 17 RBIs and has scored 8 runs. | | Everett's Ervin Goes Ballistic with 5 Hits Tuesday, June 27th, 2017: Players get multi-hit games all the time. But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Trouncers Ballpark when Matt Ervin of Everett scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the Yakima Bears.
He was down and a little subdued with mixed feelings in the postgame interview. "It was a good day for me, but not a good day for the Aquasox. The bottom line in baseball is to win. We didn't do it today," he told the press after the game.
He walloped 5 hits in 5 at-bats in his career day performance, but it was the Bears, who won the ballgame 14-6.
However, the left fielder of the Aquasox did have this to say: "My swing was really, really there today. I made some good, solid contact and when that happens... good things happen. Sure, 5-5 and losing is better than going 0-5 and losing. I'll take 2-4 and a win and be overjoyed. I ain't greedy."
M. Ervin tripled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 9th.
This season Ervin has no home runs and a .538 batting average. | | | | | Today's Games - | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | Boise (7-5, Road: 5-2) | Tri-City (1-11, Home: 1-6) | 10:15 pm | LHP B.Shapland (0-1, 7.94 ERA) | | | Spokane (12-0, Road: 7-0) | Yakima (4-8, Home: 1-6) | 10:05 pm | LHP C.O'Dell (0-0, 5.73 ERA) | RHP R.Agano (0-1, 9.00 ERA) | | Salem-Keizer (2-10, Road: 0-7) | Everett (11-1, Home: 7-0) | 10:05 pm | RHP J.Silva (0-2, 7.84 ERA) | RHP J.Ibarra (2-0, 0.63 ERA) | | Eugene (5-7, Road: 5-2) | Vancouver (6-6, Home: 2-5) | 10:05 pm | RHP P.Henderson (1-1, 11.57 ERA) | RHP A.García (0-1, 8.44 ERA) | | |
